On the morning of September 16, the groundbreaking ceremony for the FAW Jiefang New Energy Light Truck Base Project, undertaken by the Ninth Institute, was grandly held in Jimo District, Qingdao City. Zhang Jun, Secretary of the Jimo District Committee, Shao Xianping, Chief Economist of the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, Hu Hanjie, Chairman of FAW Jiefang Automotive Co., Ltd., Zhu Qixin, Director and General Manager, Wang Ruijian, Deputy General Manager, and Kong Dejun, Deputy General Manager attended the groundbreaking ceremony. Liu Shixin, General Manager and Party Secretary of the Ninth Institute, Deputy General Manager Yang Yumin, as well as on-site project team members and representatives from major subcontractors and project stakeholders also participated in the ceremony.
This project plans to invest 998 million yuan and will be newly constructed on reserved land within the red line of FAW Jiefang Qingdao Automobile Co., Ltd.'s Jimo factory. The construction includes assembly lines, cab painting lines, and corresponding auxiliary public power facilities, warehouses, canteens, etc. After reaching production capacity, it can increase light truck production capacity by 100,000 units per year. Currently, FAW Jiefang's cargo vehicle products are mainly medium and heavy-duty trucks; light vehicles have greater development potential in terms of market scale and growth momentum. The existing capacity cannot meet development needs and must be expanded to support strategic planning. The implementation of this project will enhance FAW Jiefang's complete vehicle equipment capabilities, especially for light truck models, improve the technical content of products, seize development opportunities in new energy trucks, and gain a market advantage. This is a new factory construction project under FAW Jiefang's smart transformation strategy that is beneficial for enhancing market competitiveness and operational performance.
Qingdao has a superior business environment and broad development prospects. The completion and production of this project will closely align with Qingdao's development strategy and assist in building Qingdao into a global industrial internet hub and smart new energy vehicle industry base.
