The assembly workshop of FAW-Volkswagen's second plant has been in continuous production for more than three months since the completion of its 58-day renovation on October 7, 2019, with over 50,000 vehicles produced. Due to the short renovation period and tight production tasks, the line and equipment urgently need further optimization and rectification during the production halt for the Spring Festival.
The renovation content during the Spring Festival includes the modification of the door line extension, optimization of equipment for the sliding line, PBS line, door line, and instrument line, as well as addressing issues discovered during production. According to plan, construction work commenced on the fourth day of the new year. During the Spring Festival, the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread nationwide. The project team members were undeterred and returned to Changchun early to ensure that work started as planned. They actively communicated with the owners and contractors, collected personnel information to ensure that no one had contact history with Hubei or travel history outside the province. At the same time, an "Emergency Plan for Epidemic Prevention and Control" was formulated, requiring all personnel entering the site to complete disinfection and protection measures as well as temperature checks according to the requirements of Volkswagen and our institute. Ultimately, the project renovation work started smoothly on the fourth day.
After entering the site, to ensure that the previously collected information was true and reliable, the project team required all construction personnel to fill out a questionnaire and sign a commitment letter to guarantee that there was no false reporting or concealment. Regarding on-site epidemic prevention and control, the project team arranged dedicated personnel every morning and afternoon to measure the body temperature of construction workers and conducted irregular inspections of on-site construction to observe workers' conditions and urge them to wear masks correctly. At the same time, project team members actively communicated updates on the epidemic and prevention methods to construction personnel, making everyone aware of the seriousness of the situation to protect their own safety and ensure the safety of their families and others.
During the pandemic, some construction personnel were unable to return to the site as planned, leading to overtime work on-site. Early departures and late returns also made commuting a problem for some employees in Changchun and surrounding areas. The pandemic is ruthless, but people are compassionate; project team members actively coordinated resources, allowing colleagues without private cars to share rides with others or partners, and arranged for car owners to pick up colleagues who had difficulty commuting. Currently, all renovation work at Volkswagen's second plant during the Spring Festival has been completed as planned, awaiting production resumption in the workshop on March 5.
