On August 17, the Dongli District Heroic Behavior Association in Tianjin specially visited the site of the Tianjin FAW-Volkswagen paint line project to present the "Certificate of Recognition for Heroic Behavior" to Guan Jingdong from the company's Equipment Engineering Institute, Electrical Control Engineering Department, and delivered a consolation fund.
According to reports, on the evening of June 11, Guan Jingdong and his colleague Wang Fan were swimming at the Evergrande Sports Center in Dongli District, Tianjin, when they discovered an elderly man drowning in the middle of a swimming lane. At that time, the elderly man was not splashing or calling for help; he was quietly standing in the water. When Guan reached the elderly man, he found him lying motionless at the bottom of the 1.8-meter deep pool, eyes closed and saliva dripping from his mouth. He used his left hand to pinch the man's left shoulder and his right hand to support his right side, forcefully lifting him out of the water and pushing him to the shore while shouting for help. The elderly man's son and colleague Wang Fan rushed over to assist, and together they managed to pull the elderly man completely onto the shore. Seeing that the man was unresponsive, with weak heartbeat and no breathing, Guan Jingdong immediately began CPR. Due to the remote location of the incident, staff called for emergency services. The medical personnel on the phone guided the swimming pool staff to continue resuscitation efforts. The elderly man gradually began to breathe again, and after more than 20 minutes, an ambulance arrived on site to take him to the hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, he passed away that night despite efforts to save him.
Guan Jingdong's selfless actions exemplified the true meaning of "heroic behavior," promoted traditional virtues and noble sentiments of the Chinese nation, and demonstrated a sense of social responsibility and good spirit among young people in this new era.
