During the New Year period, the design team of the Hongqi H5 sedan project at the Ninth Institute exemplified the spirit of the Ninth Institute, sacrificing the New Year holiday to put into action the core concept of "taking user needs as our own responsibility and creating competitiveness for users," providing strong support for the group's independent development.

Hongqi cars are pioneers and representatives of national automobiles. The Hongqi H5 sedan project is a national independent brand project (including traditional vehicles and electric vehicles) that is highly valued by the state and FAW Group. Since this project was scheduled to pass the group's "four departments" joint review on January 11, 2016, and was reported to the general manager's office of the group company for approval on January 13, the effective working time for the Ninth Institute to prepare the feasibility report and preliminary design was only one week. The timeline was extremely tight, with the sedan company requesting urgent output documents on December 29, 2015; on December 30, the main designer provided feedback on input conditions to the client and drafted design requirements; at noon on December 31, the sedan company provided the Ninth Institute with locked design input conditions; by January 8, 2016, the Ninth Institute completed all relevant design documents.

The biggest challenge of this project is to renovate using the "old factory," with the stamping workshop utilizing Factory One of the new Ulsan base for sedans; the welding and painting workshops being renovated using Fengyue Factory; and the final assembly workshop being renovated using the Hongqi H platform assembly line. This required designers at the Ninth Institute to quickly understand the current state of existing facilities and develop a renovation plan that best suited this project based on design inputs.

The design team members include Zhang Linshan, Kang Ning, Wu Yongtao, Sun Xingwu, Chen Ke, Shan Huanzhong, Xiao Hong, Ren Wenli, Wang Yali, Wang Ping, Li Youjun, Qin Hongwei, Gong Shuang, Chen Donglong, Sun Dezhi, Ma Xiaolin, and Ma Chao (Electrical). The members of this design team actively responded to the call of chief designer Liu Wenhe. Among them, Zhang Linshan temporarily interrupted her vacation, Sun Xingwu immediately returned to work after donating blood on his first day back, and Chen Donglong worked overtime at home in Songyuan according to task arrangements while visiting family during New Year. At the same time, Wang Ping also overcame difficulties while working on the Tianjin FAW Toyota project. With tight timelines and heavy tasks, people at the Ninth Institute do not compromise; the design team urgently responds to user needs selflessly and tirelessly without taking a break during New Year’s Day, determined to meet user and group company requirements on time.
