In 2016, Jiangsu's industrial design promoted industrial development with three major achievements: first, Jiangsu took the lead in the national industrial design field by issuing the '13th Five-Year Plan' for industrial design industry development; second, it established a multi-level industrial design integration development platform system centered on jointly built demonstration parks (centers) by provinces and regions, jointly built industrial platforms by provincial enterprises, and jointly built research centers by provinces and schools; third, it cultivated the main body of industrial design innovation, turning designed products into industrialization. Guan Ming, director of the Economic Operation Bureau of Jiangsu Provincial Economic and Information Commission, introduced at the Jiangsu Industrial Design briefing on November 17 that currently, 137 industrial design works from Jiangsu have entered the preliminary evaluation of the '2016 National Excellent Industrial Design Award'. The selected works must meet five standards: advancement, innovation, practicality, driving force, and environmental protection. These outstanding works will be showcased at the Jiangsu Industrial Design Week on December 9.

It is understood that by 2020, the level of industrial design industry development and service in Jiangsu Province will significantly improve, and the role of industrial design in optimizing and upgrading industries and transforming economic development methods will be significantly enhanced; the added value of the industrial design industry in the province will exceed 100 billion yuan; 10 national-level industrial design centers and 200 provincial-level industrial design centers will be established in the province, cultivating 100 industrial design enterprises with strong market competitiveness and introducing and training 100 influential leaders in industrial design nationwide.

By organizing industrial design competitions and a series of supply-demand matching activities, the direction of industrial design development in the province is guided to promote the integration of industrial design with manufacturing. In the preliminary evaluation of the 2016 China Excellent Industrial Design Award, Jiangsu had 137 products (works) shortlisted, accounting for 13.5% of the national total, ranking second among provincial levels nationwide. The selection of gold awards for industrial design products in Jiangsu Province in 2016 highlighted the market prospects and industrialization driving effects of products to select outstanding industrial products. Four major industrial design competitions such as Tianmu Lake Cup, Dongfang No.1 Cup, Xugong Cup, and Huihong Cup adopted a model where manufacturing enterprises release design needs, participants create targeted designs, and enterprises directly participate in evaluations. The final results of the competition are realized through talent recruitment, property rights purchase, cooperation development, etc., achieving industrialization docking.

As an annual event in Jiangsu's industrial design community, the third Jiangsu Industrial Design Week will be held on December 9, focusing on the theme of integrating industrial design with manufacturing development. A series of activities such as design exhibitions, industry docking, and award presentations will be carried out. Designers will visit enterprises to organize outstanding local design companies to diagnose manufacturing enterprises on-site and propose design solutions based on their needs to achieve seamless supply-demand matching in design. The activity 'International Masters Entering Jiangsu Manufacturing' will introduce international industrial design resources to serve local manufacturing through master forums, enterprise exchanges, field visits, etc., accelerating leapfrog development in enterprise design capabilities.
